VACCINE PROTOCOLS
Due to the advances in Veterinary medicine derivd from recent research studies on vaccine performance, we are altering our recommendation for vaccines and vaccine intervals for our cherished pets.
Puppie and kittens are still the most "at risk" patients. With newer information on their susceptibility to diseases, we will be recommending a wider protection for our vaccine protocols. After the first year of age, the core vaccines will have a longer oeriod of effectiveness as the pet's immune system matures. Certain vaccines will still be recommended on an annual basis to ensure the highest level of protection for our "at risk" patients. Bordetella and Lyme are given annually in dogs; FELV for outdoor or indoor/outdoor cats.
The vaccine protocols are as follows:
Puppies- Dhlppckv and lepto 4 way at 8, 12, and 16 weeks Bordetella- 12 weeks Rabies 1 year- 16 weeks Lyme- 12 and 16 weeks
1 year old- Dhlppckv and lepto 4 way- 3 year duration Bordetella- 1 year duration Rabies- 3 year duration Lyme- 1 year duration 2 and 3 year old- Bordetella- 1 year duration Lyme- 1 year duration Lepto 4- 1 year duration 4 year old +-Dhlppckv lepto 4 - 3 year duration Bordetella- 1 year duration Lyme- 1 year duration Rabies- 3 year duration
Kittens- PPRC- 8 and 12 weeks Rabies 1 year- 12 weeks FELV- for outdoor cats and exposure 8 and 12 weeks
1 year old PPRC- 3 year duration Rabies- 3 yar duration FELV- 1 year duration
2 and 3 year old FELV- 1 year duration
4 years old+ PPRC- 3 year duration Rabies- 3 year duration
It remains our recommendation that dogs receive semi-annual physical exams to include fecal, urinalysis, heartworm, Lyme's, Ehrlichia, and Anaplasma testing. It also remains our recommendation that cats receive semi-annual physical exams to include fecal, urinalysis and FELV/FIV testng for "at risk" cats.
These revised protocols are key to maintaining your companion at his highest level of health, which is our mission at Woodbridge Animal Hospital.
